Ian,

The primary competition will be Network Appliance and CacheFlow. Inktomi is sold as software only that you then install on a Sun system typically, whereas the other vendors sell the HW and SW in an "appliance"-like solution (with few options). Internet Caching is the second largest appliance segment at this time, behind storage appliances (which, incidentally, Network Appliance is even more focused on than caching).

inktomi has played more strongly in the Sun market but their NT products are also very good. They are in fact directly competitive with Novell FastCache as well as several other programs (I think Dave B mentioned the important ones).
