MediaRing Internet Telephone Technology Supported By Top Modem Chipset Manufacturer
HANNOVER, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 1999--MediaRing Inc. today announced that Conexant Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: CNXT - news) will provide chipsets which support MediaRing's voice communication technology. MediaRing Talk(TM) 99 technology makes it possible for end-users to connect their standard analog phones to a modem in their computer to make and receive calls over the Internet. Conexant will market these enhanced voice modem chipsets to its modem and PC manufacturers.
''Adding Internet voice communication capability to a modem will benefit the consumer,'' says Ede-Phang Ng, CEO of MediaRing. ''Besides making Internet calls, they can also enjoy features such as integrated text chat and voice messaging, a call log and caller ID. We believe voice communication will be a new frontier on the Internet.''
MediaRing Talk, with its patent-pending ''Off-the-Net'' technology, is a round-the-clock solution for making calls over the Internet. The enhanced modem-phone combination makes it easy for consumers to place and receive Internet phone calls even when their computers are not logged onto the Net, something that was previously available only with a dedicated leased line. Because the call is via the Internet, the end-user only pays for a local connection to his ISP, significantly reducing the cost of long-distance phone calls. Modems powered by Conexant chipsets will allow PC users to make Internet calls from a normal analog telephone to anywhere in the world.
''Conexant's products are central to bringing the Internet to the PC user,'' said Chee W Kwan, division director of product marketing, Conexant. ''Enabling Internet telephony through our modem chipsets in an easy-to-use way, that further extends the value of the Internet for the end-users. We continuously seek to enhance the Internet experience through innovations with application vendor partners like MediaRing.''
''Our relationship with Conexant is an excellent example of our technology integration and marketing partnership plan,'' said Ede-Phang Ng. ''Our goal is to make MediaRing's technology the technology of choice for OEMs, manufacturers, service providers and consumers.''
