NT/LU shorts(posted in Yahoo too):

For those who missed it, the WSJ reported the monthly short position on
Big Board stocks today. Of interest is the fact that the short position
for NT and LU increased substantially from 2/15-3/15/99. In fact, LU had
the biggest share increase and NT was number 6(up about 8MM and 3MM
shares respectively).
This would seem to me to be some type of sector call by someone(s) re
telecom. NT in particular is still trading within the same range now as
it was 2/15(the ever-popular $60, +/- 5%). This certainly can't give the
shorts any great solace, since the most they could have shorted NT at
during this time is about $63, and we are at $60.50 right now. Can only
think folks are setting themselves up for a negative qtrly report in
mid-April; otherwise they have very little wriggle-room before their
position is under water. The LU shorts at least have a few negative
analysts' reports questioning their accounting in the last qtr; no such
reports for NT re shortfalls this qtr(other than rev shortfalls in PBX
and Enterprise as per the Lehman Bros report last week).
Any other insights for this info?
