Could be viewed as positive also (from a contrarian perspective). The shorts have already sold NT, now there are fewer sellers to put pressure on the price. Should NT do a large deal, we could be set for a nice short squeeze.

Shorts moving in is to be expected too, given that NT has more than doubled from it's lows.

G'day all - Paul, I was reading some of my Mutual Fund annual reports [they certainly have no urgency to tell me what they are doing with my money <sg>,] a couple has a short position on NT. I know these funds, they are value investing and they have seldom touched high techs one way or another [long or short.] Puzzled, I went thru the portfolio again - and I realized something. NT was not a bet but an hedge! They have held a long position in BCE, so they shorted NT. I don't know if it is a yearend tactic though

best, Bosco

Thank you Paul for that information -
I can only comment that Business Week had an article which said that a survey of IT managers showed an increase of 1% for business enterprises and about 14% for telecom providers. This kind of trend would seem to hit Cisco harder than Lucent and Nortel although both sell a lot of PBX equipment to the enterprise sector.

Hello Paul and all - I was checking some webtool and saw Interwoven in Red Herring Online. In it,

redherring.com

it mentioned that NT was doing $4.5B sales over the net [see below quote]

Nortel, whose
sales over the Internet totaled
about $4.5 billion last year, uses
TeamSite to ensure consistent
cross-product information.

If memory serves, CSCO has been doing quite a lot of biz on the net, then, Mr House has also started pumping net sale before the merger.

best, Bosco
