The 1/2 period MA is a means of detrending the MA, mainly used to see the cycles. MSWIN and others has an indicator for that.I shift my MAs to right.

Jurgen, RE:left shift. I have recently experimented with left shift and even backtested it with superior results. Craig pointed out to me my error (it just seemed to good to be true anyways...>g<)

When left shifted x periods a signal is delayed the same amount. For example, if you left shift 3 days, you have to wait three days for the data. There is no data for today. So I'm not sure why one would shift to the left unless a delayed signal is what you want.

I have tried to detrend and cycle out a stock, and sometimes seems to work well... but mostly not much success... think I better go pick up the new rag, thanks for the info
