Amkor MicroBGA Capacity

I just talked to Jeff Luth, whom seems very easy to work with -- the VP for IR for Amkor (610-431-9600 x5613).

Q: Amkor recently announced that it is to double its MicroBGA chip scale packaging capacity. Where is this capacity located? (http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/990301/pa_amkor_t_1.html)

A: It's in Philippine even though I don't think this is a factor.

Q: Since Anam/K4 is not part of Amkor yet, at least at this time, could it be assumed that this MicroBGA capacity is certainly not located in Anam/K4?

A: That's correct.

MicroBGA packaging capacity will play a crucial role because of its application to RambusDRAM and cellular communications. So even if (a big, maybe baseless, assumption) the Anam/K4 deal goes bust, it doesn't jeopardise Amkor's number one position in the package/testing business in general and uBGA in particular.
