It is unwise for Philips to talk $ 30 now! A month ago, VLSI was at $ 10+, now it goes to $ 30+. That would be fantasyland. Their best bet is to appease VLSI management with some business proposition, through which both VLSI and Philips benefit and grow together. That way VLSI can see even higher stock price like $ 40 by end of 2000! Philips can't come up with $ 2 billion cash for $ 30 VLSI. VLSI is not worth $ 30 now - in year 2000 maybe as business picks up!
