Sun Micro CFO Says 3Q Going According To Co.'s Expectations

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Sun Microsystems Inc. (SUNW) Chief Financial Officer Michael
Lehman said he sees nothing "unusual" in the company's business that could hamper third-quarter
financial results.

"We don't give specific guidance," Lehman told CNBC in an interview Monday. "But obviously if we
were terribly uncomfortable with (analysts' estimates) we would have found a way to communicate it
to them."

For the third-quarter ending March 29, 21 analysts expect Sun to earn 70 cents a share, up from 59
cents recorded in the year-ago period.

"A couple of weeks ago, we were certainly characterizing business as in line with the expectations we
had," Lehman added.

In economically struggling Asia, the executive said Sun has experienced some signs of recovery. "In
Japan, for instance, in the last couple of quarters we've seen sequential revenue growth," he noted.
"And each quarter, revenue has been higher than a year ago."

From their chart, SUNW's growth in market share Q498 vs Q497 was an 18% increase to over 9% of the market. Total sales are (almost) head to head with HWP at $1,508 million. Sunw is still growing.
