"implied volatility on options has increase[d] to about 50"

yes it has. the april option expires on april 16 and next earnings announcement date by microsoft is not until april 22 according to baseline. the actual volatility based on the previous six months of trading is 27.31 according to PC Quote.

i am very tempted to write april 190 or april 200 calls on my microsoft stock which, generally, i don't advocate.

regards
