Mani - Re: "Intel in trouble.. "

Seems to me that more trouble Intel is in and the more market share that AMD gains, the more money AMD loses and the more money Intel earns.

There has got to be a big disconnect in these numbers, as you must certainly recognize.

Mani, Re: Intel in trouble

Do you care to make a guess on what revenue will be
reported by Intel this quarter ? down 15% or 10% or
5% or 3% or flat ?

Gary

Re: "Intel in trouble"

More like "Fleckenstink in trouble". He has been bad mouthing INTC for years and years and has been shorting it since it was in the 30's.

"One can quickly see why the PC sector and Intel are having problems: The market is not as profitable for everyone as it used to be, since ASPs have basically been more than halved in the last year."

Having problems??? Intel just reported all time record revenues, recorder earnings, and great margins in what was one of the most profitable quarters in corporate history. All this with continued weakness in Asia and Latin America. WOW...I hope Intel continues to have these "problems"!!! <ggg>.

Re: ASP's cut in half

Yet, Intel's margins have remained solid and at the high end of their historical guidance range. Hmmm...perhaps we have to look at the cost side of the equation. You know, the side were Intel excels and AMD flounders.

Perhaps Fleckenstink as well as many other investors should pick up a basic book on economics and try to understand the difference between unit market share, revenue market share, and profit market share. Across all markets (not just the US retail which represents 10% of the total worldwide market), Intel has lost some unit volume share, little if any revenue market share, and still has virtually 100% of the CPU profit share/opportunity.

Yeah, Intel sure is in trouble. Meanwhile AMD is in fabulous (or should I say fabless) shape.

Here is a premiss which I stated years ago but is worth repeating. When market conditions are good, Intel makes obscene amounts of money and AMD may squeeze out a little profit. When the market is tougher, Intel makes a few million less and AMD goes deep red.
