Multimedia Features

IDT's premier Internet telephony services, Net2Phone ®; and Click2TalkSM, will be fully integrated into easyurf.comSM, allowing visitors to call retailers, friends and family via the Internet. Using Net2Phone® and Click2TalkSM, recipients do not need a computer in order to receive telephone calls. Easysurf.comSM gives users an additional element of comfort by letting the users contact retailers directly from the web without having to visit their sites while already online.

Cheap internet: Right in the same column as this piece by Judith Graham, was an article on the $299 intenet computer from Microworkz. What skeptical Graham miscalculates are the many new millions who can now afford to 'surf' and now 'phone' via the internet. BIG market.

Bob

Thanx for the contrarian post. We need them. I will now delight in destroying Judith Graham's poor logic. She said,

"In IDT's latest quarter, Net2Phone generated a mere $7.2 million of the company's total $160.7 million in revenue."

So what if IDT's regular telecom business is huge? Judith also failed to mention what could easily be read from IDT's most recent 10Q, "Internet telephony revenues increased 160.4% from approximately $4.8 million for the six months ended January 31, 1998 to approximately $12.5 million for the six months ended January 31, 1999".

160% GROWTH IN INTERNET TELEPHONY!!!!! That's awesome!

In refering to the Netscape deal Ms Graham also wrote,

"'I think it's a great deal -- the agreement as its
structured -- but it's really no different from the deal they signed with Yahoo! last March,' said Gregory Miller, a telecom analyst at Jefferies & Co"

NO DIFFERENT FROM YAHOO!!!! What kind of a rube is this Gregory Miller guy!? Netscape will have a button right in the tool bar for all of 50 million users to see!!! I use Yahoo every day and have never seen anything about Net2Phone in there except for some banner adds a couple of years ago. I am sure that somewhere in Yahoo, (the directory maybe?), they can hook you up with Net2Phone but it is most definitely not right in your face like Netscape will have it.

Ms Graham also ignorantly wrote,

"Net2Phone requires multimedia features which many PCs made even two or three years ago don't include. And chances that people are going to upgrade their systems just to accommodate Net2Phone's technology are slim."

Of course no one is going to upgrade just for Net2Phone lady, but with sub $500 dollar systems all the rage, how long do you think it will take until everybody has a multimedia system. Besides, IDT also has Net2Phone direct which can be used by ANYBODY, computer or not.

She again writes,

"'The call quality on the company's intranet is good (the vehicle used to channel domestic calls), but internationally
the call quality is horrible,' Jefferies' Miller said, adding
that he has never supported the PC-to-phone technology."

I have read many testimonials of a good quality on international calls on this message board alone!!! Saying the quality is horrible is completely UNSUPPORTED. They recently did some tests in Britain and IDT came out almost as good as AT&T! Besides, what kind of a short sighted idiot doesn't support PC-to-phone technology?

She also writes,

"As IDT focuses on marketing Net2Phone, it does little to change the fact that fundamentals are not improving for the company's core business, Miller said."

IDT is doubling their revenue every year!!! Fundamentals are not improving??!! Once they have their network deployed, and the internet business spun off their profits will also begin to sky rocket. I can't believe this guy is a paid analyst, and I can't believe Graham is a paid writer. All she is doing is repeating everything this ignorant analyst is saying. If I wrote like that in school they flunked me. The schools wanted ORIGINAL thought.

Graham again quotes Miller,

"There has been talk of spinning off the company's Internet-related assets, but it's doubtful that it would produce a higher valuation."

This is an unbelievable statement!!!! What about XTON, NAVR, DBCC, etc. I defy Mr. Miller to cite me ANY COMPANY THAT HAS ANNOUNCED THE DETAILS OF AN INTERNET SPIN OFF THAT HAS NOT GONE WAY UP IN VALUE AFTERWARDS.

Pardon my emotional ramblings but I just had to say something. Who can read so many STUPID statements about a business and an industry and not say something.
