Recently, M Dell pronounced that Dell was going to take major market share in PC sales and server sales. The numbers he threw out were mind boggling.

I spoke with a senior exec at a competitor about this. Response?

I think you just saw the first volley.

This is going to be a battle royal with very low margins. Companies are not going to step aside and see their market share eroded any further by trying to hold up margins. The bean counters are going to lose this internal battle to the strategists.

BTW, I decided to spend a little time on the DELL thread. So far, no flaming cocktails thrown this way.<g>

I'm so even handed.<g>

Um, well, it does look to be heating up a little over there. Apparently, they don't like to think that Michael Dell's stated plan of substantially increasing PC market share will run directly into well-financed players that aren't afraid to fight for market share.

A Dell Celeron 333 w/o monitor for about $829 and an IBM Celeron 433 for $859??
