Cal NEVER had the best schools, not even good. NH has been number one for 20 years.

And Cal doesn't have the worst. Arkansas, Miss and La swap that title. Ark's schools descended dramatically when Clinton was elected governor.

Apparently, the times and the Chronicle show different numbers...it happens... Thanks for responding finally... I still think that the importance of abortion and "extremism" in the vote is disputable. For example, there is no solid data to show why the Republican turnout was low--- the business about alienating the moderates is a guess. Also, Boxer's convictions are not a very strong bit of evidence. But I see where you get your impressions. Remember, though, the LA Times is not a right-wing paper...
