Agreed on this trial maneuver by MSFT, t2k.

But I must confess that I think MSFT may be playing the PR game more than they are sincerely trying to settle.

Here's hoping for the best.

I see the States as the real thorn in our sides, here. All the ADs view this trial as their potential 15 minutes of fame.

When the nasdaq slides downward, more subtle pressure to settle is being applied on the DOJ and 19 states. Too many Americans have a lot invested in technology funds and the S and P 500 index funds-not to mention big funds like Magellan and Nasdq 100 type of funds. All these people see MSFT as the top holding in most of their mutual funds

I think you give the crowd too much credit. I'd bet most people couldn't tell you the classification (large growth, small cap value, etc) of the funds they own unless it's in the name. They buy the one that was hot last year.
