Hi Michael:

>>OT<<

"marginal" tax rate.

I wasn't trying to blame either party, just the raw political decision Clinton made, and the fact that it caused some significant pain for those who hadn't planned on a retroactive increase in their taxes. (I know that it's easier to get sympathy for child abusers than for people who make >$200,000, but it's the principle I'm trying to state.)

Speaking of marginal tax rates and their effect on behavior, I remember an eye surgeon during the fifties who made a lot of money. He started in January and worked until his income reached the next marginal level, then he quit for the rest of the year rather than
"work for the government". Also, he had one nurse who was also his secretary, one phone line and a manual typewriter. Times do change.

I have no affection for either major political party and would love to see a viable third party. "There was never any thing by the wit of man so well devised or sure established, which, in the course of time, hath not been corrupted."
