And in addition, here's an interesting read from c|net news on "IBM cutting many new chip deals..."

Very interesting perspective... .

news.com

Seems that - "A shift in emphasis toward being a component supplier to the industry, combined with a possible de-emphasis on acting as manufacturer of finished machines, fits with projections from Wall Street analysts."

And - "...we believe that the IBM business model is the best in the computer industry given the high level of RECURRING REVENUE..." (read bottom line green dollars !!) "...that come from it disparate divisions, said Dan Niles, computer analyst at BancBoston analyst."

(all from c|net noted article above)

Look at all the recent deals announced - DSP Communications, Hughes, Nortel, Harris, Juniper Networks, Nexabit Networks, Kyocera, 3Com, Sagem, not to mention more recently the $16B Dell and $3B EMC deals ! And the doors are open for lots more !

And with all the technology announcements (and being delivered on-time/early!) - Copper Interconnects (speed, efficiency, reliability, lower cost, less power, etc.), Silicon Germanium (comm's.), Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI: speed, efficiency, etc.), Giant-Magneto-Resistive (GMR) Head technology (highest # bits/area in the world on HDD's, improved read rates, etc.). The list goes on, and on, and on......(sounds like the Energizer Bunny!).

IE..................Revenue GROWTH !!!!

...and just remember....there is MORE to this computing/networked "eCommerce" world than JUST PC's !!!! Mid-, High-end, and workstation systems support the industry!

Com'on folks - GET ON THE BANDWAGON !!! Long term growth and market leadership !!!

KO

The EMC deal is not as significant as the Dell deal and I am not
basing this on the fact that the Dell deal is more dollars, it is
based upon the fact it is a new deal and Dell has a model that IBM
needs but due to channel conflicts may have to do through Dell versus
implement themselves. If you read the EMC press clip closely they
use the word "continue". The deal with EMC is not new but in my
view and extension. IBM gets little in return since EMC has
draconian business practices and EMC's value is in its intellectual
property which they will not license to a competitor even if they are
an end user using a complete product in production. IBM's DASD OEM
business has been large for a number of years and keeps getting
better each year so the EMC deal is a positive step (at the expense of
Seagate and others), it just isnt as good as the Dell deal IMHO.
