AboveNet and AT&T Asia/Pacific
Contract With Taiwan's Largest Internet
Service Provider

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- AboveNet Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:
ABOV - news), the architect of a global one-hop network that brings together ISPs and high
bandwidth content sites in a centralized co-location facility, today announced it had won a
contract from AT&T to provide Internet connectivity and facility management to HiNet, one
of Asia's largest Internet Service Providers (ISP). Hinet, a wholly owned subsidiary of
Chung Hwa Telecom, is based in Taiwan and carries an estimated 60 percent of that
country's Internet traffic.

Under the three-year agreement with AT&T/Asia/Pacific, AboveNet will provide
co-location, network connectivity and 24x7 facility management to Hinet. This will enable
Hinet to provide the most cost effective and reliable Internet services to its customers.
Access to the scalable, reliable, high- speed connectivity provided by AboveNet was one of
Hinet's key requirements in selecting a solution provider.

''AboveNet's superior Internet connectivity combined with this one-hop connection from
Taiwan will enable Hinet's customers to experience emerging applications such as voice
over IP -- this is not currently viable because of today's highly congested Internet
infrastructure,'' said Sherman Tuan, chairman and chief executive officer for AboveNet.

By locating its routers within the AboveNet facility, Hinet has direct access to other Asia-
Pacific and domestic ISPs co-located at AboveNet's San Jose facility. Through AboveNet's
network, Hinet can access European ISPs co- located at AboveNet's East Coast facility.
Hinet will also benefit from AboveNet's over 200 peering agreements, both in the U.S. and
worldwide. This one-hop global network architecture will improve Hinet's connectivity and
enable Internet applications requiring high bandwidth, low latency and low packet loss.

''The establishment of one-hop connectivity from Hinet validates that AboveNet's San Jose
facility is rapidly being recognized as the Internet hub of Asia Pacific,'' said Jerry Chen, vice
president of Asia Pacific for AboveNet. ''AboveNet and AT&T are providing Hinet with
the means to ensure its customers can experience the potential of the Internet while at the
same time, providing Hinet a more efficient, cost-effective way to manage its business and
expand its Internet presence.''

<OT>

I'm back and very happy. I sold half my position about 2 weeks ago and then went on an Amazon cruise, completely leaving the market behind. Heard nothing until I grabbed a newspaper yesterday in Miami. I grinned the whole flight home. Wow 125! Glad I wasn't around because I'm the type who woulda took more profits on the way to 125. Anyway, glad you're still here too. And hey, we can't regret taking some profits.... we had too, I think...any ideas on the future?

Good luck to all.

P.S. Remember when we used to post each other "Is anybody out there..?" Well, they're here now.
