I can see why the CEO of IBM thinks the PC is dead. From his perspective, all he has to do is look at his PC division to find a basis (meaning excuse for failure to turn around his PC division), 1 Billion in the hole should be enough evidence, but he has it wrong, what he really means is the PC is dead at IBM.

Gregory, Re. <I think IBM's main concern should be that the mainframe will eventually be replaced by the high end server, made by you-know-who! GO DELL!> 1- At this point Dell doesn't even make high end PC servers (IMO a real opportunity). 2-Even the highest end PC servers do not approach the capabilities of IBM's S/390 or SP's. Scott

Disclosure: I am seriously long both Dell and IBM.

We have had this discussion before. Intel based servers the likes of which Dell sells DO NOT have anywhere near the reliability of S/390 mainframes and won't for the forseeable future.
