When are the ATHM shareholders going to vote on expanding the authorized shares, so the split can occur?

The technical depth argument was true a year ago, but it is not so true now. ATHM is losing its technological lead because TCI made a major mistake by going after digital tv while claiming they were about to upgrade. We never discussed this in the middle of last year. We always assumed that they were proceeding, but without the funds, they couldn't realistically do it. Then the T merger enabled TCI to dawdle another six months.

During this time advances in delivery have been coming from every direction. AOL feels quite confident that they could put together an effective BB system twice as fast as the current cable companies are doing it. Since penetration is slight it is in their interest to sit back and watch what develops. At whatever rate T-TCI planned to build-out Comcast and Cox would still have to proceed essentially on their own. Tough to do but with QWST's powerful and quiet expansion going on, there is the possibility of hooking up with them especially since the RBOCs are mired in 19th century thinking. QWST has the expertise to eclipse ATHM now and AOL is their ally.
