"There will be a family of standards" as several people associated with the negotiations have already stated. If you know anything about Ericsson you know that they are perfectly capable of shafting IS-95 when they determine the specs for the third generation solution. No matter how sneaky and devious Qcom can be - they are no match for Ericsson. You have to trust me on that, I can't elaborate in fear of a defamation suit. All Ericsson needs to deliver is a system that suits GSM better than IS-95. Now that Qcom no longer has infrastructure manufacturing, guess who has the upper hand in shaping 3G?

Take a peak at Nokia & Ericsson versus Motorola & Lucent today and you'll see where the wind is shifting.

Nokia's price reflects the delicious anticipation of Qualcomm GSM products and Ericsson CDMA products in the handset sector. That's like forcing Michelle Kwan and Mark McGuire to switch professions. Can't wait to see the results somewhere around 2001.
