Tero - If you know anything about Ericsson you know that they are perfectly capable of shafting IS-95 when they determine the specs for the third generation solution. No matter how sneaky and devious Qcom can be - they are no match for Ericsson. You have to trust me on that, I can't elaborate in fear of a defamation suit. All Ericsson needs to deliver is a system that suits GSM better than IS-95. Now that Qcom no longer has infrastructure manufacturing, guess who has the upper hand in shaping 3G?

I really, really wish there was something in there I could disagree with.

Clark

Nokia plans to buy more Internet cos-report

March 25, 1999 09:38 PM
NEW YORK, March 25 (Reuters) - Nokia Corp's chairman told Business Week the Finnish telecom equipment maker plans to buy some more Internet companies, the financial weekly reports in its April 5 edition.

The magazine's closely-watched Inside Wall Street column quoted chairman Jorma Ollila as saying the company would use a lot of the $9 billion raised in a new stock issue for acquisitions.

Ollila did not provide details but Business Week said analysts were speculating that companies he is eyeing could include Britain's Psion PLC POL , Qubit Technology and 3Com Corp's COMS PalmPilot.

3Com was not immediately available for comment and Qubit could not immediately be reached.

The magazine said Nokia in the past year and a half had snatched up four small companies that specialise in electronic commerce, Internet routers and other Internet-related businesses.

Tero,

It sure has become quiet over here. I would be very interested in your thoughts on the Qualcomm-Ericsson deal, now that there is a bit more information available. I think the only folks that Ericsson shafted are those that believed their BS about W-CDMA. It's funny that the inventors of W-CDMA will have to pay the bulk of the royalties to that scrappy little company from San Diego, if W-CDMA ever goes commercial which I don't believe it will. It's interesting how Dr. Jacobs quiet confidence triumphed over the great ERICY PR machine.

Speak up and explain this crazy turn of events. I know you can put a pro GSM spin on it.
