4,

There's this new thing going on with mm's. My broker explained it to me about 10 weeks ago. I have yet to verify it from another source but I have seen the evidence since then. as I have closely stalked many stocks since that time.
It seems that there is now a less strict time requirement for trades to be "printed".
It works like this...A 20k trade that is actually a buy, at let's say 5, pushes the actual ask up to 5 1/4 and the bid to 5 1/8. 10 minutes later (after a few trades at 5 1/4 and 5 1/8), that trade is printed. Now you see a trade at 5 that is way outside the spread. Sneaky but true. You see the print...the bid is higher than the trade...you think, "That must be a desperation sell". You panic and sell at the current higher bid, thinking you just dodged a bullet. The stock keeps going up without you.
Too many people have access to level 2. Delaying the reporting of key trades snookers that supposed advantage. BUT...knowing that this is happening can be used to your advantage and you don't even need level 2 to use it. It's somewhat strange...but from what I've seen over the last couple months, it's true. Now that <i.you've seen it and remarked upon it without any prompting, that's more verification as far as I'm concerned. I've had other people remark upon it in personal messages as well.
This post may be challenged but I know what I've seen and my broker has a good record.
