Why is Nortel announcing POSSIBLE contract wins?

It is appropriate and laudable for Nortel to blow its own horn as long as the information is correct and not misleading. The media would like the proclaim the competition as only between Cisco and Lucent. Nortel is simply pointing out they are also a competitor. The market is slowly realizing Nortel is a force to be reckoned with. Witness the fact that Nortel's share price has risen faster this year than either Cisco or Lucent. It is a smart strategy for NOrtel to publicize future possible contract wins. Don't blame them for competing.

G'day all - hello, bill, long time... my take is less sophisticated than yours. Exposure. Noticed that the last of your examples was a LU PR. So both camps are trying to make some noises, and imho, taking sides is a meaningless task reserved expressedly for partisans <vbg>

best, Bosco
