when you look at stock price movement before and after
splits do you consider the movement relative to

1. the rest of the tech sector or some other benchmark and,
2. movement of the stock during normal (no split/non earning) periods

it may be that the swings stand out enuff to overcome the need
for this analysis...just curious

Richie, we have debated this quite fruitfully.

As we discussed, MSFT did trade up this week as we ran up to the split unlike your conclusions per your post:

Message 8438036

Remember that one?? As I tried to explain regarding MSFT's decision to change the timing of this split from February to a more "friendly" period here in March, I would also suggest that a run up post split is not a given (as your previous post suggested) considering the new variables that we have today effecting the market.

My point -- MSFT's trading next week is not as predictable as it might have been if we didn't have all this media attention talking about the possibility of GROUND TROOPS IN KOSOVO.

Interesting quote from NBC news this morning...."At some point the Administration will come to the realization that Air Strikes are NOT GOING TO CURB THE KILLING IN KOSOVO, and at that time it will have to make a decision about whether to send GROUND TROOPS IN AS THE NEXT LEVEL OF ENGAGEMENT."

Not something I want on the Front Page of the New York Times on Monday morning...the Market, and MSFT, will react negatively if this gets too much coverage.
