I agree that Nextel is a great takeover candidate, it is just a matter of time. Since I have a small position in it, that suits me fine :-) I would be surprised if AOL were interested in them, I don't see how that fits into their plans. They already have partnerships with WCOM, Bell Atlantic, and others for broadband, and they could strike a partnership with Nextel for wireless if they wanted to, without buying them out. I think WorldCom would be a better suitor for Nextel. But that rumour has been around for a while.

Vendit, personally, I don't like that idea for AOL to buy NEXTL, the
same reason I don't like AOL buy or being bought by ATT.

My argument is simple:

(1) What happens when MSFT owns IBM or CPQ or DELL?
(2) What happens when GM owns MRK or MSFT or DELL?

Diversified companies are trying to break up again, such as ATT/LU,
HWP for 2, IBM/worldNet,..., only because the world is at a much faster pace now, unlike the early years, PC is for decoration, tel and
mails are the only means in everyone's life, conservative style
is the only style for running business.

I would never think that every company, big or small, needs a .com years ago, such a comic look but
the world has changed, our views have changed as well.

AOL should remain software oriented, selling screens yields
no inventories, virtual industry needs quick decision, quick direction, you can't do that if you are being held down by wires,
inventories, hardware,...

Partnership is a different story, the one with SUNW is such a
smart decision, EBAY's partnership is such a bright idea, no, I
don't think AOL will go for any hardware company, I trust
AOL's management won't do that.
