Vivus has contracts with two manufacturing sources:

1)Spolana Chemical Works in Neratovice, Czech Republic.

2)Chinoin Pharmaceutical and Chemical Works in Hungary. Chinoin is the Hingarian subsidiary of the French pharmaceutical company Sanofi Winthrop.

I don't know where UpJohn or Schwarz gets there raw alprostadil but since it takes a heck of a lot less alprostadil to achieve an erection via a needle injection I would venture to say that the amount of raw alprostadil needed by Vivus to produce MUSE far out weighs that of UpJohn and Schwartz combined.

If you really want to know their sources, I suggest you e-mail each company.

IMO Vivus is in no position currently to be thinking about spending any money obtaining an alprostadil manufacturing facility. I am sure that any large pharmaceutical company can mass produce alprostadil if they had an urgent need for it.
