Mr. DownSouth , Young Andy. I have been in computing for 30 years. I am still in computing. When MSFT created the de facto standards at a fundamental level, they fulfilled the goals that the computing community had been trying in vain to reach for decades. The result was a very sudden explosion in creativity, entrepeneurship, employment, and access to computing by the masses. What state would computing be if the DECs, IBMs, Sperrys, and even Apples of the world continued to pretend that they were promoting standards when what they were really doing was participating in standards decisions to scuttle the whole process for their proprietary architectural interests? You know not of what you speak. You are absolutely correct! Can you even imagine how difficult and EXPENSIVE it would be for the average PC user to try and move information from one compute to the next (as from the office to the home). It would be an a complete slaughter of the PC user by the PC industry! Thank You JK

DownSouth, you spoke for many of us when you answered Andy's cynical post. I was outraged at his totally inaccurate comment, but when I looked at profile and recent posts, I decided not to waste my energy trying to refute the comments of such a consistently negative person.
