Does anybody remember this?? I feel like a relic.

Unfortunately, I do. I can also remember the TV possessed by the 'Prince of Darkness' during a particularly good show. I can still remember the vacuum tube needing replacement the most, it was a 6SN7GTB, and cost $3.40, (No tax in those days), a small fortune to us. BTW, this tube was also used by the hundreds in early computers.

I miss 'Life of Reilly', 'Honeymooners', 'Sea Hunt', and many others, but I don't miss 'Howdy Doody' or 'Lambchops'. I'd rather watch '3 Stooges' or 'Our Miss Brooks' anytime. I also played hookey and would watch 'People in Conflict' for the spicier side of things.

I see Buffalo Bob doing commercials on CNBC a couple of years back. Also, PBS ran a special on 'Howdy Doody' a while ago. Although I didn't care for the show, I enjoyed the retrospect on early TV.

Thanks for reviving the memories, PW.

Oh Yes I do Remember those fine and glorious days!!!!

I remember watching Davey Crocket on Disneyland and The Mouseketeres. My Grandfather was a faithful when it came to watching the Friday nite fights put on by Gilette. The "Millionare" was one of my fav's and the Kraft Theater was one of my Mom's.

You may feel like a relic, but at least you're not so ancient as to be compared to a dinosaur.

Barney (and no I'm NOT Purple)

Cheryl...Sounds like we are the same age however I think my family must have been richer than yours...We had color TV!! Remember the blue, red and green cellophane sheets that you stuck over the black and white screen?

Also sounds like your TV cabinet was larger than ours if it could play 78 inch records.... ;-)

>>Does anybody remember this?? I feel like a relic.<< Of course. There are many more of us relics out there. I remember the 7 inch Dumont very well.

One piece of trivia. The original Clarabel the clown went on to become the host of another childrens' show that dominated the tube for years. Bob Keeshan became Captain Kangaroo.
