Richard, Thanks. Very helpful info and suggestions.
No plug ins running that I am aware of. I do use (and run) BrowseMaster which has a DOS based program running in the background. TC200 seems to be quite a hog and frees up about 15% of those GDI's when I close it down. I run the Norton System Doctor also. Usually, when I have so many windows open, 1 or 2 of them have java applets and I guess that uses GDI's.
What is a GDI? How can I add more to the system?

Computer #2: I thought from reading some earlier posts here that the version of Win95 I had was a 16 bit program, that is why I asked re the upgrade.

Re the networking: I'll be getting into that this coming week as I am having a DSL router installed as part of a new special access in my area. They give me 384 kbps with unlimited access for 59 bucks a month! So, once they get that in, I will want to do the networking so I can have both computers accessing the net via the dsl connection.

Won't be able to run the checks you suggested till tomorrow, got to run to the final 4 TV! Will report back.
Thanks again. Go Duke!

Rich --

Sometime this next week I'll be hooking up a SOHO package kit from NDC for networking.

If anyone has any advice and/or tips with this unit, I would appreciate hearing.

A buddy and I have both purchased these which were one of the kits reviewed in the new issue of PC mag .... he ordered direct from the company and I ordered online. His price was $110 and mine was $72.
The day that mine arrived, Fry's ran them in Dallas for less than $50 ....
The kit has a 10/100 hub and 2 100 PCI cards with some wiring.... I've not even opened it yet as I just now succeeded in getting my multiple monitors (4)up and running in a proper manner.

As I said, anyone who has tips --- speak up, for I'm a novice at networking, and that's not to imply that I'm any great shakes at working inside the computer box, either.

Nemer

Richard--I am running a Compaq 4784 with Windows 95 and Netscape Communicator 4.5. I recently had to shift my ISP to Internet America as they bought out my local company Cyberramp. Not long after I switched over, I noticed that when I went to my Address Book in Messenger, the list of my addressees had become invisible even though the icon on the far left column was still visible. When I clicked on the icon the name and e-mail will come up. But I don't know where on the list anybody is anymore. I called Internet America and they know from nothing about it. I can't find anything on the Netscape support page yet. Can you or others help me with this? Myron

Hi Richard,

At 1:00 CST this morning I thought I would attempt my first try at downloading IE5. I went to bed and left the download run expecting to find it incomplete. I woke up at 3:30 and come downstairs to the office and to my amazement it was all done downloading. I only had to make one decision and it installed itself. No problems what so ever.

Richard/Thread

well, had the PC running smooth as silk then something was corrupted. Not sure what happened but I was unable to open web pages. To make a long story short my ISP technician fixed it so I can now surf web, problem is I have no idea what he did and I am left to reconfigure the programs and hardware.

First question: My settings tab under "display" in control panel only has one choice for colors, that being "16 color". I need to know what I need to do to add the other choices.

Second Question: my internal modem is not being found. I am using my backup external but really prefer the internal. How do i force this to be found.

Third question is more of a recommendation: Backup, Backup, Backup. Lost all important emails and address book along with other minor items I had not thought to save. IT IS BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY. DO IT NOW
