John- Thanks for the post! This was a great article! I had not read it before. It explained in "simple" terms the advantages and disadvantages of each. What confuses me are the speeds that people report. One source says DSL is 200 times faster than dial-up. The next source says it's 29 times faster. I see that same wild ranges with cable speed numbers. I'm sure there are many variables. I am glad that this article reported cable modems to have tested slightly faster. It's nice to have an edge even though it's slight! How can DSL compete with cable's prices? I read that they are competitive, but this source showed it to be higher. In California, IS West is charging $199 for setup, and $375 per month. That's not competition! Are they the only game in town? I know they are in L.A. and other cities. They offer speeds up to 1.5 mbps. They must know the prices will eventually have to come down to compete with broadband. Thanks again for the great article. I book marked it in a heartbeat! Ed
