Tad LaFountain. Re: E-commerce
Thanks for the interesting response. A new slant that I hadn't considered before.
On the consumer side, I still wonder what it will take to get the average consumer to feel secure in E-commerce transactions, and if it can happen in the predicted four years.
As you suggested, we probably will be surprised at what types of commerce works well on the net.
Another analyst I posed these questions to thinks consumer E-commerce will mainly replace catalogue sales. He specifically sited purchases of automobiles and furniture as examples of items that would not do well on the net. "Who's going to buy a car or furniture without sitting in it?" (Interesting considering the recent IPO's of Autobytel and Autoweb).
As for automobiles, I think that we will see a clash between the web and the dealers that may eventually force everyone to the Saturn mode of pricing. I can see a lot of people going to the dealers to "sit in one" and after they've chosen the model and features going to the net to make the purchase. I imagine there will be other conflicts between dealers and the net.
As for addressing the post to you, well, you responded. ;-) (Thank you). Anyone else on the thread will surely jump in if they're interested.
And this dialogue is of interest to all who wonder about the success of E-commerce and it's corresponding impact on chips for servers.
