Windseye: In a perfect world they should have developed their own e-commerce site from scratch or bought one with a clean record and used shares for the purchase instead of cash. But they needed to act fast and they needed an acquistion with front-line technology, established links and oen that had not yet reached hyperinflated price. Luckily, Shopping.com difficulties kept its price within reasonable limits. Also "Shopping.com" is obviously going to be a generic name.

It's too bad that CPQ could not have bought it with shares, but acquistion by share swap will become possible once AV's share price starts cruising in the stratosphere with the other internuts.

AV is a search engine. CPQ wants to be in e-commerce for the fat revenue stream that brings. But it doesn't want the headaches, inventory and carrying costs of being a retailer. Shopping.com fits the bill.

The bundle of services and products which are being put together for AV can hardly be called a conglomerate.

CPQ's own experience in direct sales can help Shopping.com and vice versa.
