Let me add to the ZD research I just posted. The charts below clearly illustrate DELL's growing dominance in the workplace market in the USA. Although all major PC suppliers are consolidating their hold on the workplace PC business - effectively eliminating peripheral and white box manufacturers - DELL is picking up the biggest chunk of this business and is also eating into the major PC suppliers' shares.
DELL'S growing dominance is clearly demonstrated in the over 500 employees workplace below.

US PC WORKPLACE SHARE
.............Q1,98.....Q2,98.....Q3,98......Q4,98......Q1,99
DELL....16.1%......16.6%....17.0%.......17.0%.....21.2%
CPQ.....16.7%......17.5%....17.1%.......18.9%.....18.0%

US PC WORKPLACE SHARE OVER 500 EMPLOYEES
.............Q1,98.....Q2,98.....Q3,98......Q4,98......Q1,99
DELL....21.0%......22.6%....28.7%.......29.3%.....30.9%
CPQ.....32.0%......27.8%....25.9%.......30.2%.....21.5%

E-Machines, Microworxz and others (from Asia and elsewhere) will soon sell for less than $600 a very high percentage of total computers sold-whether to home users, small businesses or businesses with over 500 employees.
