mike...re: dell not just another box maker.. you perception is based on reality...especially "in taking over other plants"...look at the lesson that vw learned in the fiasco with bmw over rolls royce/bentley....ended up with a "brand name", but an antiquated production facility in crewe england...similar bmw pumping plant modernization monies into rover...reason why the ceo resigned recently....best to start with a clean page, stay out of labor surplus areas (unlike gtw in hampton va...possible union problems)...and build upon the cult like esprit de corps of your employees...it is easier to gain efficiency from an already efficient model...than to reinvent the wheel...ever wonder why the japanese auto makers put their us production facilities in non urban, agricultural areas....???? good luck, ed a.
