This may well be the first time a seasoned veteran of the "chat boards" has ever been appointed CEO of a company that has it's own popular chat board. How TED (Terry) handles this delicate situation may well set a standard against which others are judged.

Personally, I'd advise CEOs to avoid these boards like the plague. It's a no-win situation. If you start off being chatty and then stop, people will wonder if there's something wrong. If you get drawn into a pissing contest and stop, people may assume you've given up. If you don't respond to everyone, people will assume you've got something to hide or are playing favorites.

The best thing a CEO can do, IMO, is find a loyal vocal shareholder who they feel can accurately portray the company. Let that person sit on the front line so to speak. If the CEO feels the urge the communicate with the chat board, he should do so via an e-mail to someone he authorizes to post it.

Just my two cents.

P.S. Hey TED, when will PINC be a reporting company? (gg)
