But in the case of Celebrex, the cost can be recovered. The "safety" factor means less serious GI events, which are very costly even if they occurr in only a few patients.

Some of the other drugs may simply be more expensive than cheaper alternatives. In that case, your article has more of a point.

Another reason that Doctors often write Rx's for more expensive drugs is the Placebo effect . "One of those Cheap generic's wouldn't possibly work as good as something that costs 20 times as much"
