I don't want to state the obvious, but AMAT is a cyclical. Cyclicals are frequently priced on estimated eps at the peak of the next cycle. The idea is that you don't have to time the cycle, necessarily, you just have one variable to worry about--peak eps.

That said, what's AMAT's eps going to be at the peak of the next cycle? It was something like 1.64 in 1996. is the 2.22 year 2000 estimate the peak of the cycle?

I don't know.
