Et tu, Rambi?
Awwww- c'mon, LLR--nooo- actually I would be more accurate in crying et tu, LLR? I think the way you are looking at it is in some absolute simplistic political form that didn't exist except in a small minority and is perceived only post facto. Nothing is that simple! The lives led at that time were a far more complicated mix of the traditional warring with the Age of Aquarius! I can only reflect what part of it I lived---which was probably equivalent to the middle class of hippiedom.
Those who bought bellbottoms-and I had a roomie like this- who merely assumed the facade--- that was the fad part of it. Then I think you had the dropouts (drugs, society) in the sense of so completely dropping out, that they were no longer a part of anything. But between the extremes, you had the rest of us. My friends fought in Vietnam,(some of them died) or they went to Canada, never to be heard from again, there was a great upheaval in the moral code that governed our behavior, not always with happy success. There was a questioning of the political and environmental philosophies that had reared us. But I don't believe that you can truly divide us from all that made us as if there were a sundering of all that joined us. That's not possible.
I think that the next generation is more able to take all that happened and clean it up into what you now see.
