-AT&T punked out, they probably deserved to as they made a faustian deal with the Devil by accepting gifts in the form of near utility status from the Government. The government simply collected on its debt.

-MO punked out and gave away its 1st Amendment rights to advertise.

-IBM didn't punk out and fought the good fight for a decade, and the feds didn't achieve their ends.

-MSFT will not punk out. MSFT was not underwritten by government grants and largess when it began, it didn't receive tax credits or discounts or transfers of military technology or space program spin offs as so many other firms and in particular high technology firms have in this country. You see, the PC and its software was not considered important at the time. Now that MSFT has overcome road blocks over the years and succeded beyond the wildest imagination of people - the DOJ and AG's have the unmitigated gall to tell MSFT and Gates that they must hand over the source code to the Windows OS.

Not even no. Hell NO!!!!!

EMBRACE & EXTEND

How do you define "MONOPOLY" ? Just because Microsoft had more than 90% of the market ? Did Microsoft worry to death about losing its market ? If not, then why Microsoft continues improving its products to make them more attractive ? All in all, what is your definition of "MONOPOLY " ? If Microsoft did not have monopoly on its products, then why should it release its codes and totally surrender to its competitors ? Is this a fair business model ? If your definition of monopoly is the major market share, then every growing company will eventually face that death penalty !!!!
