AboveNet Chosen as the 'Official Network Provider' of Third Annual Webby Awards
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- AboveNet(TM) Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: ABOV - news) announced today that it has been chosen for the second consecutive year to be the ''Official Network Provider'' of The 1999 Webby Awards. AboveNet(TM) Communications Inc., the architect of a global one-hop network that brings together high bandwidth content sites and ISPs in a centralized co-location facility, will be responsible for ensuring a secure voting environment and ''always on'' Web site for the ''Oscars of the Internet.''
The 1999 Webby Awards will be held in San Francisco, CA at the Herbst Theater on Thursday, March 18, 1999. AboveNet will exclusively provide Internet connectivity and co-location for the Webby Awards Web site.
The March 18 event will honor the most creative and innovative Web sites of the year and the talented editorial, technical and design teams behind them. Award categories range from arts and commerce to education and film to technical achievement and travel. The award ceremony for the Webbies, dubbed the ''Oscars of the Internet'' by the San Francisco Chronicle, is the biggest night of the year for the Internet world. For the third time this high- profile event will be webcast live -- coverage will include the pre-party, awards ceremony and post-party.
