CMon: You dont need to 'stand out in the open' to get a signal. All you need is a clear path from the handset to the satellite. So while you would not be able to call closed up inside your tank, you would have a sporting chance from a foxhole. I dont think they would be used in front line situations anyway. More of a logistical and command backup. Some of the stuff they are using today is pathetic and some of the stuff is nice. That is another problem, every service has numerous systems. Just to get a basic stock to issue to all the separate users would be an advance.

Then again I'm sure the pilot they picked up last week would have liked to give the rescue group some real time updates from the scene!

Along with the fold-out antenna, mebbe the military version should have a fold-out Medal of Honor.
