Five years ago, Bill is not as serious as today about online service and e-commerce. The current strategy is to leapfrog AOL with ADSL or cable, and it will be available in 200 cities this June. #1 and #2 will not be happening, but #3 option is underway. MSFT can easily acquire a few portals to become the #1. If AOL can buy NSCP to increase its eyeballs, what stops MSFT from buying a few others?

Remeber, it is war between MSFT and AOL/NSCP.

I wouldn't count Microsoft out. They are great at copying other people and slowly improving their products. Look at Explorer - the new versions are supposed to be better than Netscape, so they have caught up. (I still like Netscape better for my own use) I don't care which wins, I own them both, and there's plenty of room for both as long as the internet keeps growing.
