I have an IBM Aptiva PC 1015 with a 2.5 drive. I hear I can't get one like it anymore and that when I go to the 3's of 4's...my recovery disk will not work with them.

I had a similar problem with a Compaq. The recovery disk would not work with a new harddrive...the best I could figure was the recovery disk wanted to see the original hardware.

I hear I can't get one like it anymore and that when I go to the 3's of 4's that I will lose my sound cards ect.

It may just be an issue with the 2 gig barrier. You may have an early version of Win95..OSR1..which needs to install in a FAT 16 partition. FAT 16 partitions max out at 2 gig. There is a good chance any IDE 2 gig drive will work..I am just guessing here.

The sound card drivers are on the recovery CD. If you want the original software load your best chance may be with the 2 gig drive and the restore option. If you install a larger drive you would have to search the IBM site for drivers for the sound card..modem..video card and ??

Is this correct and if so what do I do?

Why do you think an alternate 2 gig drive will not work?? Did you hear it from a reliable source?
