Gary,

I can see why CSCO would do it, since they need to show that it can be done. My point was more that it will be 3-4 years before mass deployment (partly due to equipment amortization). the technology should be here in the timeframe that you mentioned. CSCO is also building a new campus from the ground up to house upwards of 20k employees. This gives them the opportunity to deploy their technology without ripping out millions of dollars of legacy equipment.

it's difficult to justify spending almost $200M on an intenal network (Home Depot) if it's going to be technologically absolete in 3-4 years.

1. This system is tried, tested, and proven technology that is guaranteed to work reliably right out of the box so HD doesnt have to sit around waiting for the techs to iron out the eventual kinks.
2. The new data stuff evolves so quickly it makes itself obsolete every two years, thus making the circuit obsolescence a non issue.
3. Even if $200 mil is a lot, they are probably getting a hell of a system. And service and support out the wazoo, something your CSCO doesnt always think about. CSCO could provide a system half as big, twice as fast, half the shelf life, and 1 yr. s&s, for twice the price. Ahhh, but shareholders, it's digital! New World, man! Sheesh...

GO ASND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
