You're right Jim.....CPQ never deserved to be 50ish! Certainly sucked in all shareholders who were readjusting their new target prices higher! CPQ was, though, not too far back a high flyer and they could right the ship. It's just that the PC sector has been hit with so much negative news that it could take a long time to dig out of this mess. It's awfully tough for a company the size of CPQ to continue to show sustainable growth. They have to move their growth into new areas like AV could provide. Their timing sucks, however, now would be perfect, but who knows when they will emerge. CPQ definitely is in first place for UNCERTAINTY! That, unfortunately, they are best at!

jim: Good to see you're back......bad to see you still suffering from your delusions about channel stuffing. Do you check under your bed every night to make sure that Mason and his band of channel stuffers are not waiting for you to go to sleep.

How about that new thread? So far I think you can count on gene piccoli, baz and one Cramer groupie. If you don't like the titles I suggested how about "Channel Stuffing CHOO CHOO" or "Has Your Channel Been Stuffed by COMPAQ".

Was DELL also "hyped" when you paid $105-108 for it recently, and when it fell 35%, was that because of channel stuffing, too?

Your 4Q call of 20 cents for COMPAQ being 55% wrong, your 2Q call of 29cents being about 10-20% wrong, how do you figure you are going to get your average right in the remaining two quarters of the twelve month period you say you need to get it right.

Hey Jim... I couldn't agree with you more... Victor can quote me on this one (maybe to my chigrin sometime FAR in the future), but CPQ won't see 50ish again for awhile... we'll see what happens, but the psychology is negativo. Anyway, why does Victor think I'm a Cramerite? Personally, i don't like the guy - he's a lot of flash and many of the things he says on CNBC and on TheStreet.com just don't make money. I watch what he says for entertainment, but trade on my own ideas. He's fun to watch and that's why he's popular... many of us (even me in some respects) see some of ourselves in him. But to watch and follow some of his "ideas", you can see how much money he has the potential to lose... Good luck, Baz

Happy Easter Jim:

You will be so pleased with this report on COMPAQ's channel inventory.

Compaq Desktop Inventory -- Percentage Of Resellers
Citing Each Level
John Roberts

Resellers reported slightly less balance in their inventories of Compaq desktops in February 1999 vs. February 1998, according to the CRN reseller hardware poll. Nineteen percent of resellers reported shortages of desktops, while another 12 percent reported excess supplies. Both figures were slightly higher than those seen in February 1998. Nonetheless, a strong majority of respondents said Compaq desktop supplies were about right. The February
1999 figure was actually higher than the average for the previous three or six months.
