This is an answer to the argument.

"0015 GMT,990402 - NATO member country Greece has ruled out participating in any NATO ground options in Kosovo, according to government spokesman Dimitris Reppas. Reppas added that Greece would not allow any NATO troops heading for Yugoslavia to pass through Greek territory. The 10,000 NATO troops currently deployed to Macedonia reportedly arrived through Thessaloniki, in Northern Greece."

Yes, I've had occasion to deal with the Albanian security forces and no it hasn't been that many years since I lived in Greece. Albanian roads do suck. I just couldn't help taking a couple of jabs at someone who's Hellenic pride is overriding his good sense when it comes to his eternally chaotic homeland. "Greece, the birthplace of Democracy, where Democracy still hasn't made it out of the cradle".

And as for Greeks sinking NATO ships, isn't Greece part of NATO? That's something we never got the answer to the entire time I was stationed with a NATO detachment there. We couldn't decide if the Greek military was anti-NATO or just incompetent. Either way, it had little effect on how we accomplished our mission.

The RR up the Vardar valley from Thessalonike to Skopje looks like the best way to move troops into FYROM. RR from the port of Durres in Albania to Tirane, but no farther on my map. The mountains look impenetrable, easily mined , and militarily unusable. The valley of the Drin from Lezh might work but it looks like going up the back side of Yosemite. Of course, my map is left over from the Korean War (we were worried about relief expeditions for the North Koreans from Albania), and may not be up to date. Greece closing Thesalonike would be a real problem. Might have to bring a new Greek government which might cost several hundred thousand dollars. Or utilize our allies the Turks.
