General Instruments, Telcordia Team To Provide Next-Gen IP Telephony Solutions

General Instrument Corp. and Telcordia Technologies, Inc. (formerly Bellcore), announced a partnership aimed at helping customers develop and implement
next-gen network IP telephony solutions for cable providers.

The two companies will be working together to promote open, standards-based telephony architectures for next-gen packet-based networks, focused on
enabling cable operators to deploy complete, cost-effective IP telephony solutions.

Among other things, the companies will integrate Telcordia's call agent software with GI's communications gateway to the home. The call agent acts like a
local office virtual switch, providing intelligent call control features and end-to-end signaling using Telcordia standards-based call control protocols.
