*OT rant: Down with the USA * Kevin, I'll have to defend Tero here. The USA does bear some close resemblance to Shangri-La with Nirvana the common experience of people there, but only with tears in one's eyes as the Star Spangled Banner flies. When the music dies and one's gaze turns again to the streets and bars over South Los Angeles windows and doors, one can sense in one's heart that this is not our human destination. The USA is quite a bully-boy in fact! New Zealand people wanted to run their own ship, but the USA insisted on shoving nuclear-powered and armed ships up our habour against our collective will. Let's ignore whether the ships are safe and all that stuff and just think about free will. Land of the free and brave makes many a person a slave. If one gets somebody into a weak position and shoves something into their harbour against their will, that describes behaviour which Mike Tyson has been convicted of and it wasn't the punch in the old man's face. The USA complains about human rights in China while trampling human rights in the USA. The USA operates by mob rule. If the majority says something, then that's what goes. If 80% say something, they can overturn the constitution. You are not allowed to buy sheep meat from me, though Clinton is to consider allowing NZ sheepmeat sales to the USA. You are not allowed to do a LOT of things which create no victims nor deplete anyone else's property. Property in the USA is confiscated by taxation from some people and given to others who support the confiscators. Superstition is promoted by the State with Bill Clinton clutching a bible as he hurries to the church after a quick encounter of love with a young woman. Yes, I know the constitution is supposed to separate religion and the state but it is ineffectual with religious cranks ensuring superstition-based laws are passed [no homosexuals, no abortions etc] The USA is demanding that China change the 'trade deficit' which is simple stupidity - all trade gaps automatically close, just as there are no big 'sell-offs' or 'buy-ups' in the stock market. Q! has undergone a major re-evaluation. For every buyer who is stampeding in at the new prices, there is a seller who thinks it high enough. Every dollar paid for goods has to go somewhere. Either into a bank to go around the loop again or to buy goods from elsewhere. All money can do is go round. Even if bank notes are shoved in a mattress, that just reduces the money supply which pushes up interest rates and the Fed will just print some more to keep it ticking along, diluting the silly mattress holder. The trade gaps always close without governments needing to play their games. USA buys soft toys from China, Japan buys cdmaOne from USA, China buys cameras and televisions from Japan. Hey Presto, trade deficit closed! No need for big government jamboree. The USA will surely be pressuring China to accept CDMA and of course China would have anyway now that the royalties and 3G are resolved. This way China pretends they were giving ground for WTO jamboree first class waste of money discussions, where actually they want and need CDMA and knew it. Nevertheless, the USA sure beats a lot of other places on this planet as a good place to live. But Nirvana it's not! What is good is that China can buy CDMA without thinking of it as a USA product, thanks to all the licensing. Tero is avoiding and spinning again, but I think his 'USA doing some leaning' thesis is correct. His 'China Case Closed - GSM has won' didn't last long. Ericy will be installing cdmaOne networks in China very soon. Mqurice [Clark, I agree and I sure wouldn't want Milosevic as my village policeman! Give me the USA any day.]
