What a bunch of &*%*$!

Communicating to investors through such a service as SI would only enhance investor relations. The only advantage of the current system is that legal precedence (and head turning by the SEC) "allows" for material information not contained in press releases to be discussed with major brokerage analysts in private meetings. These earnings announcement meetings (or calls) are rarely open to individual investors because of infrastructure and cost issues (Conference call hosting is not inexpensive) as well as the practice of many companies not to publish the conference call number and password. The Internet offers a way to place information into the public domain at a fraction of the cost and is more recipient-neutral than existing methods. It even allows for analyst questions and a transcript of the questions and answers without having to pay extra for it.

All this being said, I can't imagine the SEC moving on this issue since the issue has already been passed over for decades.
