Mqurice (All),

Excerpt below from OsakeTieto (not dated) and a question:

personal.eunet.fi

"Bits and Bytes: Third Generation in Japan: - Nokia was late March chosen to a group aiming to develop the new Japanese 3rd generation cellular phone, according to Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun. The new phone, so called "world phone" (UMTS) will be based on broadband technology and be taken in use in year 2000. It will probably be different from the European version, which will be implemented 2001-2002. US plans are open. Other companies chosen were NEC, Matsushita and Motorola. Nokia Telecom's president, Matti Ala-Huhta, says the presence in the group will guarantee all information needed to develop both phones and networks for the new standard. Absent in both phone and network developing groups will be: Northern Telecom, Qualcomm, Alcatel, Siemens, Philips and Sony."

Regarding "Absent in both phone and network developing groups .... Qualcomm" from above. Do you or others have an opinion of whether or not the recent QCOM/ERICY deal could change this or whether it is already changed?
